Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1
What Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 brings to the table is a chance for Wii and PS2 owners to have access to some of the downloadable content songs that Xbox 360 and PS3 owners have had privilege to for the past few months. A nice feature is that even though this is labeled as a "pack", the title itself runs as a standalone, i.e. no original Rock Band is required to play the Track Pack. Where the rating falls for this reviewer: a certain polished feel is missing from this track pack that was present on the original Pi Studios versions of the original Rock Band titles: the fret board and gate no longer seem to have the exact same angle and size, the instruments seem to be a little less responsive (making some of the tracks a downright nightmare to play and promoting the use of using dirty tricks such as skipping notes before chords just to actually hit the actual chords,) band and character graphics missing that extra touch of animation to make them look as if they're actually playing particular songs instead of generic ones, no front-end and in-game menu music (makes the game feel like a demo), no cross-support of save files and profiles from original Rock Band games (this would at best save time in recreating band profiles, so no big loss here) and most importantly, a less than stellar song selection. It's imagined that the best choices of songs to perform are being saved for Rock Band 2, but still, this track selection reads more like the bands in question's B-Sides rather than songs you would actually seek out to play (for example: All-American Rejects - Move Along, David Bowie - Moonage Daydream, Faith No More - We Care A Lot, The Hives - Die, All Right!, Nine Inch Nails - March Of The Pigs, The Police - Synchronicity II, Queens Of The Stone Age - Little Sister, The Ramones - Teenage Lobotomy, and Smashing Pumpkins - Siva to name a few.) Frankly, I'm tired of having to play Blink 182's All The Small Things on every rhythm game that comes out these days, and "hits
